Where it works

Live in Bhutan. More corridors on the way.

We open one corridor at a time, each with its own local bank partner. A country is listed as live only once you can actually pay there.

What to know before you pay in Bhutan.

Bhutan is NomiOne's first corridor. Most shops, cafes, guesthouses and taxis already take a local payment QR, and that is where NomiOne works.

Paro Taktsang, Bhutan

Where you will see it

Look for the local payment QR at the counter, on the table, or on the driver's dashboard. If the QR is one NomiOne supports, the app recognises it when you scan. A searchable list of merchants is coming with the launch.

Ngultrum, and rough prices

Bhutan's currency is the ngultrum (Nu, BTN), pegged to the Indian rupee. Rough prices in 2026, to be confirmed:

CoffeeNu 150 to 250
Meal for oneNu 300 to 600
Short taxi ride in ThimphuNu 150 to 300
Tourist SIM with dataNu 500 to 1,000

Data and Wi-Fi

You need a data connection to pay. A local tourist SIM or an eSIM works well in towns; coverage thins out on mountain roads and at some monasteries. Hotels and most cafes have Wi-Fi.

  • Buy the SIM at Paro airport or in Thimphu
  • Download NomiOne and verify before you land
  • Keep a little cash for places with no signal

Do

  • Check the local amount on screen matches the bill before you confirm.
  • Keep your phone charged; the payment needs it.
  • Pay in a stablecoin if you want the coin amount to match the local amount closely.
  • Keep your receipt in the app in case the shop asks.

Don't

  • Don't share your recovery phrase with anyone, including someone claiming to be NomiOne support.
  • Don't confirm a payment after the rate has expired without checking the new amount.
  • Don't expect every shop to take it yet; Bhutan is live, not complete.
  • Don't rely on NomiOne alone where there is no signal.
Before you travel

Five things to do before you fly.

Each takes a few minutes and saves you doing it on a mountain road with one bar of signal.

  1. Install the appiOS and Android. Free to download.
  2. Verify your identityOne-time check with a passport or national ID. Do it at home, not at the counter.
  3. Fund your walletPut a supported coin in a wallet you control. A stablecoin such as USDC keeps the maths simple.
  4. Check your coin and networkThe supported list is in the app and on the How it works page. If yours is not there, swap before you go.
  5. Save the support contactIn-app help for payments, support@nomione.io for everything else. Support hours are in Bhutan time.
